About John Innes No. 2 potting compost

Developed in the 1930’s and made available in the public domain, the John Innes range are named after the institute where William Lawrence and John Newell undertook a long process of trial and error to produce the most effective compost blends. John Innes himself was a 19^th century London financier and landowner to bequeathed funds to advance British gardening through a new research body.

John Innes No. 2 blend was developed with potted plants in mind- its balance of loam, peat, sand and fertiliser that produces the ideal conditions for potted plants, whether when first moving them into pots or on moving to a larger pot.

John Innes quickly became the premium compost choice and is today universally available- so successful was Newell and Lawrence’s experiments. After many decades of successful use by gardeners at all levels, the John Innes blends remain unsurpassed for their quality.

Delivery Info

The bags of compost are delivered on a pallet, on curtain sided lorries with a tail lift and pallet trolley and are only guaranteed to the kerbside. Please note items may be delivered in multiple deliveries.

Orders can be delivered next day if placed before 12:30pm Monday to Friday & next day delivery is selected, we can also deliver on Saturday mornings, Sat Am option must be selected in the checkout.

The order cut off point is 1pm each day Monday to Friday.
