Allium Globemaster Bulbs 18/20cm

Allium Globemaster is a large bulbous perennial with strap-shaped, grey-green leaves and globular clusters of starry aster-violet flowers in summer on stems to 80 cm in height.

I see these on sale every year in the garden centre ready to flower for £8 - £15 each and kick myself for not buying the bulbs to plant myself! Why pay that for just one when you can have a swathe of your own for the same cost with the added satisfaction you grew them?

Dense lilac-pink flowering heads made up of hundreds of individual flower buds which burst open from June to July. Plant directly into your beds and borders or they will be perfectly happy in pots and containers on the patio with a rich humus material such as our Peat free multi purpose compost or our new de hydrated Coir compost.

Alliums offers a three to four weeks display before the petals fall making way for decorative seed heads. Excellent as a cut flower or left in the garden offering fantastic structural interest in the garden for months after! These can be left to dry out completely giving you masses of seed to try growing your own, which will take a few years!

Supplied as 18/20 cm (circumference) bulbs ready to be planted our straight away to ensure they have a good head start before winter takes hold. Strong root development is the key to performance of next years flowers, early planting will ensure your beds and borders are the talk of the street making your neighbours green or pink with envy!

How to grow me

The allium is happy to grow in most soil types but will prefer a well drained spot* in full sun. Plant 15 cm deep for longevity and stability, with spacing between bulbs a at 20 cm space to avoid overcrowding and the flower heads touching. Planting in groups of odd numbers helps to showcase the elegance and individuality of these Chelsea Flower Show favourite. These should be planted in sheltered spots due to the height they achieve, windy outlooks are not suited to this variety although if they are planted deep enough some support can be used and at these prices its worth giving them a go if you are unsure?!

*Drainage in the form of horticultural potting grit can be added to the soil directly under your bulbs to ensure the roots do not sit in water and rot away. Clay soil that retains water may need improvement for successful flowering.

Delivery Information

Bulbs will be shipped when the new season crop comes into stock, in time for the autumn/ winter planting season. These are expected with us the first week of September and will take a few days to sort prior to dispatch.

We deliver via Evri on their 2-3 day parcel service. Tracking is provided after dispatch direct to your inbox by email.

Bulbs are a perishable product and should be planted up as soon as they are received to ensure they remain in best quality. Bulbs not being planted straight away should be stored in a cool, well ventilated location and not in plastic bags. Damage can occur to bulbs that are stored incorrectly for protracted lengths of time, and we accept no liability where damage (mould, decay etc) is seen that has not been reported to us immediately upon receipt on the day of delivery.

Bulbs are dispatched in separate paper bags labelled with the variety and quantity, allowing you to plan you planting scheme with ease.
